The story revolves around car salesman Jerry Lundegard (played by William H. Macy) who hires two men (Steve Busimi and Peter Sturmier) to kidnap his wife for a ransom of $1 million paid by his wealthy father-in-law, but the plan orchestrated by Lundigaard complicates the crime and leaves the crime behind a series of gruesome murders, while acting as "sheriff" or pregnant police chief Margie Gunderson.
