The story is told about an introverted teenager whose pseudonym is "Charlie", who described various life experiences through a series of letters to an unknown person that began in the early nineties, tracking Charlie during his first year of high school in the suburb of Pittsburgh. Charlie is called the wallflower (shy) in the novel, his intelligence exceeds his age, he is an extraordinary thinker; however, as the story began, he turns out to be also shy and unknown among his peers.
