A group of friends are Charles, Fiona, and Gareth meet at a series of weddings in England.
At one of these parties, Charles (Hugh Grant) meets the American beauty Carrie (Andy McDowell), who must return home in a few months.
While Charles realizes that he really loves Carrie, she finds it hard to accept it because she is engaged to Hamish (Corinne Redgrave), and it seems that the matter between them is going well, but Gareth (Simon Callow), one of Charles' closest friends, suddenly has a heart attack and dies, this time at a funeral.
