Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep) finds herself at a crossroads, as when her husband and son travel to Illinois she finds herself alone. She accidentally meets a lost man Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood) who asks her to show him to the Rosman Bridge for his filming for National Geographic, and she reluctantly agrees. Then admiration arises between them, and then love, so she attaches to him and finds herself between two options to leave her family and run away with him or leave him and choose her family.
