About a play of the same name by Arthur Miller, set during the seventeenth century in Salem, Massachusetts. John Proctor, who resists the control of the city by the rich and opposes their greedy exploitation of the labor of thepoor, lives. John also has an affair with the beautiful young Abigail, since his conservative Puritan wife has been ill for months. While Abigail is playing with the girls in the forest, the city pastor watches them and suspects them of being witches, and then presents them to the Inquisition, which accuses Abigail, John and his wife of being witches, exposing them to death by burning.
