Grace is a young teenager who agrees with her friend Judith to go out on a winter day to ride
Their horses (Gulliver and Pilgrim), while roaming on the foot of the horses slip and collide
Some of them are hit by a car that leads to the death of the friend (Judith) and the horse (Gulliver) and severe injuries to Grace and Pilgrim. Grace lives with a partially amputated leg while the horse Pilgrim decides his doctor to kill him and get rid of him, but Annie, Grace's mother, refuses this and goes to ask for his assistant Tom Booker, the famous trainer in an attempt to save Pilgrim.
