In France occupied from 1942, a Jewish refugee marries a soldier for fear of deportation to Germany. Meanwhile, a wealthy art student loses her first husband with a stray bullet in the resistance. And in the libreation, she meets an actor, gets pregnant and marries him. Years later they meet at a school attended by their children in Lyon from 1952, and the high tension between their relationship strained their marriage to breaking point.
