In the Depression, the film tells us the story of two women, Ruth and Edgie, and the story of a friendship in the eighties between Evelyn, a middle-aged housewife, and Nene, an elderly woman. The central story and parallel story relate to the murder of Ruth's abusive husband, Frank, and the accusations that followed.
